ArrestPACs were designed with two goals in mind:
1. Ensure each cardiac arrest patient receives the best possible care for the greatest chance at survival; and,
2. Help paramedics, nurses, and doctors better follow The American Heart Association's Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) protocols in their treatment of cardiac arrests, acknowledging that:
- Cardiac arrest is a stressful event for EMS providers to treat, and
- Many EMS providers do not often treat cardiac arrests and are thus unaccustomed to consistently using American Heart Association algorithms.
ArrestPACs thus provide direction, organization, and efficiency to one of the most stressful events in emergency medicine. They are purposefully:
 |
- Simple — unfolding in a way that presents the correct treatments in the correct order for EMS providers to follow American Heart Association algorithms simply by opening and deploying ArrestPAC contents.
- Instructive — each ArrestPAC includes quick-reference cards
reminding EMS providers of individual responsibilities and
workflows in the treatment of patients displaying V-fib,
V-tach, PEA, or asystole.
- Flexible — the patent-pending design defaults to the
AHA algorithms for treatment, but allows variation to
accommodate the wishes of individual medical directors
in modifying treatment protocols. ArrestPACs are thus
flexible tools for promoting ACLS standards, even when
local standards vary from the AHA algorithms.

The PitCard for Cardiac Arrest |
Watch a pit crew during a race. It is incredible to see how much
gets done in under 10 seconds.
o We can adapt this approach to the team response to cardiac arrest
management. Use the pit card to train your group and facilitate pit-
crew CPR. Plus, the card can be adapted to reflect the protocols you
choose to follow. |
